Fantasy Football 2020 Kickoff
August 25, 2020[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Fantasy football and card collecting goes hand in hand. Developing some sort of emotional bond with a player (even if it is one sided) is a huge reason why a lot of people collect. A way to get that one sided emotional bond is to draft a player in your fantasy football draft and maybe, just maybe, see some success with your roster. Take my PC for example. I have my main collection of Tom Brady and New England Patriots players, but then in the dark corner is the island of misfit toys…or in this case, misfit cards.
Rudi Johnson is a relative unknown in the card industry today, but he is a guy I have collected since the mid 2000s thanks to a fantasy football championship that I won thanks to his 2004 season when I got him in the later rounds of my fantasy draft. That season he broke out and finished with over 1,500 yards from scrimmage and 12 TDs. From that day on I have held a special spot in my PC for Rudi. Fast forward a few years, and while he had two follow up season where he averaged about 1,450 yards from scrimmage, Rudi quickly flamed out and didn’t leave much of a lasting impression on the NFL or card collectors. To me though, I’ll never forget his 2004-2006 seasons and whenever I find a Rudi Johnson rookie card, patch, low number parallel or autograph for cheap…well I always pick them up. You can go online and buy his rookie auto for less than $3 which is well worth it solely for nostalgia purposes. Rudi is one of MANY examples of random players in my PC.
So here at Card Czar, we want to merge our passions. With almost 30 years as a collector and over 20 years playing fantasy football, it only makes sense that this was our next progression at Card Czar. To say we are passionate about both hobbies wouldn’t even do it justice. It is bordering an obsession at this point. I’d estimate that 25% of my PC is made up of those random guys who I had on my fantasy teams. Jermaine Gresham, CJ Spiller, Sam Bradford, Trent Richardson, etc… Big names in their heyday, but players that never lived up to the hype and ultimately disappointed.
But hey…let’s not focus on the players that didn’t work out. I have success stories like Tyler Lockett, Davante Adams, Alvin Kamara and plenty of other perennial fantasy football studs both on my roster and in my collection.
Since fantasy footballers and collectors alike are both in it to find the next up and coming rookie or diamond in the rough, but also want to pad their portfolio with blue chip talent for monetary reasons (fantasy payouts/flipping profit) it only makes sense that this was our next progression at Card Czar. Along with cards we will have available and any card related posts, expect to see plenty of fantasy football content and advice for the 2020 season and beyond!
