2019 NFL Week 2 – Stock Talk With The Czars

September 17, 2019

[vc_row][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

A weekly feature we will have here at Card Czar is a recap of the players who shined the most on the gridiron from the previous week! Often times, we see an uptick in sales based on performance, so we want to let our collectors who some of our favorite buys are at that given time and highlight the players’ achievements on the field from that past week!

Let’s go!

Week 2 Top Performers

Quarterback

Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes continues his dominance on the NFL and finished Week 2 with 443 passing yards and 4 TDs. If you invested ANYTHING in Mahomes before 2018, you are sitting pretty

Wide Receiver

Demarcus Robinson
Many are saying “who?” and rightfully so. Demarcus Robinson is a relative unknown but stepped up with Tyreek Hill being out and attention being paid to Sammy Watkins. Robinson turned that into a career best game and was on the receiving end of two of Patrick Mahomes’ TD throws. Don’t fret, we have a couple of his cards in stock. Buy them now before the shoot up in value!

Emmanuel Sanders
32 and coming of a torn Achilles, Emmanuel Sanders should be an afterthought.  Instead, he has been one of the most productive WRs these first two weeks with a stat line of 16/184/2. Targeted often (10 times per game) Sanders should continue to be a fantasy football WR2 as long as his body holds us and is a great buy low player. He will never have major hobby love, but has been a productive player throughout most of his career, so he is a nice addition to your PC.

Julio Jones
Once he put his foot in the ground, you knew he was gone. The game clinching 54 yard TD was vintage Julio, as he topped out at 20 MPH during the run to paydirt. One of my favorite players to watch and collect, Julio has basically punched his ticket to Canton and is still only 30 years old

Running Back

Dalvin Cook
Losing his first season to a torn ACL and second season to nagging injuries, Weeks 1 and 2 have been Dalvin Cook’s coming out parties and should result in hobby love for the Vikings RB. Minnesota has leaned on Cook and that has resulted in two straight games of 100+ rushing yard and 3 TDs. Much like how we saw Todd Gurley’s value sky rocket two seasons ago, I think Dalvin is the next high valued RB in the card collecting industry.

Aaron Jones
A very popular 2019 fantasy football pick, Aaron Jones had a dud of a  game in Week 1, but made up for it in Week 2 with an RB1 performance. The former 5th round pick has cemented himself atop the Green Bay Packers depth chart and that usually turns into favorable statistics

Tight End

Vance McDonald
One of the few Red Zone threats in Pittsburgh, Vance took advantage of his 7 targets by hauling in 7 catches for 38 yards and 2 TDs. The production may not be consistent, but he has a major role in the Steelers’ passing game, so you can start him with confidence on your fantasy squads and know that any of his rookie cards lying around could eventually be flipped for a decent profit.

Honorable Mention

Lamar Jackson – Lamar continues to terrorize the NFL, this time rushing for over 100 yards, while also throwing for 272 yards and 2 TDs. I wasn’t able to grab him on any fantasy football teams, but I was happy to pick up his Contenders Optic Red #’d 60 this off season. Maybe you will see it on the website someday?

Austin Ekeler – Melvin Gordon who? Ekeler continues to play well and make Chargers fans forget that their franchise RB is watching the team from home on Sundays. I’m not sure I would consider Ekeler a great “buy” just yet, but he is certainly a guy you want to keep an eye on depending on how this whole Melvin Gordon situation plays out.

Chris Godwin – Godwin was a hot name this off season because new Tampa Bay head coach Bruce Arians loves to feature his slot receiver, but I never thought that he would essentially overtake Mike Evans as the #1 option. In two games, Godwin has served as the WR1.

Mark Andrews – You don’t see any higher end stuff from Mark Andrews on our site because I am selfishly hoarding his autographs and low #’d rookies. Eventually, I will have to part with some of those, but he has been a favorite of mine since he drafted in 2018. I’m happy to see that FINALLY I may have been right about a player. TE’s don’t generally bring in big money unless they are one of the best at the position, and I would say that Andrews has a chance to finish as the most dominant TE in 2019. Invest now!

Up and Coming Players

Mason Rudolph – Unless you’ve lived under a rock these past 24 hours, you’d know that Ben Roethlisberger is out for the 2019 season due to an elbow injury and Rudolph is the next guy up. Collectors and Investors love finding “The Next Big Thing” and Rudolph could be that guy. He looked solid in his relief of Ben and has solid weapons to throw to in JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Washington and James Conner, so perhaps Rudolph could end up being “The Next Big Thing”?

James Washington – See above. Both Washington and Rudolph have been working with the 2nd offense all summer, so they likely have a rapport already. Washington was one of my favorite breakout stars in 2019 and I think the QB switch in Pittsburgh could actually help make that breakout a reality.

Teddy Bridgewater – On Sunday we lost two 1st ballot Hall of Fame QBs to long term injuries. Unlike Big Ben though, Drew Brees should only miss about 6 weeks with a torn ligament in his throwing thumb. Inset Teddy Two Gloves Bridgewater who has been trying to make a name for himself ever since a career threatening knee injury suffered at practice a few years ago. Bridgewater may be able to use this 6 weeks as an audition for a big money contract elsewhere at the end of the season. He’s a great candidate to buy low, though know you may have to hold onto your investment for 5-6 months.

Daniel Jones – It was a rough week for QBs drafted in the early 2000’s apparently. Eli Manning has been benched in favor of 2019 6th overall pick Daniel Jones. Jones’ price is already pretty high right now, but if he turns the Giants team around much like Baker Mayfield did with the Browns in 2018, you could see the value of Jones’ cards go through the roof.

Unsung Heroes

D.J. Chark – D.J. Chark was one of the most athletic players to come out of the 2018 Draft and the Jaguars (who are very thin at WR) used a 2nd round pick on the former LSU Tiger. While 2018 was a failure to say the least, 2019 has started off strong for Chark as he has become the Go-To Guy in Jacksonville and has scored 2 TDs on the young season. I like Chark to have a mini break out year this season. Buy his stuff now because it is way under valued!

Matt Breida – It is tough to find a lot of Matt Breida stuff, so if you get the chance to pick up one of his autos, jump on it. We have his 2017 Select rookie in stock, which is a beautiful and low priced card. The new featured back in San Francisco should see his stock continue to soar as he churns out 100+ rushing yard games week in/week out.

Rasheem Mostert – To go along with Matt Breida, running mate Rasheem Mostert lit the fantasy football world on fire with 151 yards from scrimmage and a TD in Week 2. The 5th year journeyman is such an unknown that he only has one card and that is from the 2017 Contenders set…because, well just about everyone has signed for Contenders and one point or another.

Who do you think will break out in Week 3 of the NFL season? We’d love to hear!
