What Is A Sports Card Break?

What is a Sports Card Box Break?

In this day and age, buying boxes of sports cards can be a pretty expensive affair. Sports cards have recently seen a huge jump in popularity, which in turn, has caused prices to jump significantly. Breaking a box of cards is an affordable way for collectors to either roll the dice and hope they land a big card, or pay for only their favorite players or teams. Instead of paying for a whole box, we are “breaking” it up for multiple people to get in on the action.

The Basics

Sports card breaks will be done by box, pack or multiple boxes or packs. Each break will be broken down by team, player or card.

Dependent on the set, breaks will be set up per the following:

  • Random Team (RT): Quickest way to fill a break and most cost effective way to get into a break. Prices are typically the same for each team.
  • Pick your team (PYT): One of the most common ways to breaks hobby boxes. Prices vary based on value of each specific team.
  • Random Division (RD): Not as popular as RT or PYT, but still an option to quickly fill a break.
  • Random Card (RDC): Meant for boxes with 1 pack of 10 or less cards. Benefit is nobody is skunked in this type of break.
  • Pick your player (PYP): Meant for higher value sets with a small checklist and for case breaks only.
  • The random player, card, team or division will be decided by a randomizer used at Random.org.
  • You’ll then get any “Hit” (autograph, relic, parallel, insert or rookie) card hit from the team/player/division you purchased or that was randomly assigned to you. In some cases, veteran base cards will not ship, but the breaker will make you aware of that before or during the break.

Skunked? I can walk away with nothing?

Unfortunately, getting skunked is a possibility if your team/player/division isn’t hit. We will do our best to ensure everybody walks away with something from a Card Czar break, whether that be a $1,000 card or credit to www.cardsczar.com.

Why are prices different for teams when picking your team?

Simply put, some teams are more valuable than others. Take 2020 football for example. The Los Angeles Chargers will be more expensive than the Atlanta Falcons because the Chargers have one of the top rookies in Justin Herbert, while the Falcons do not feature any great rookies. PYT prices are driven by the rookie class from that specific year. Team value can vary from week to week, month to month or year to year based on how each team’s rookie class performs.

Break vs Rip?

When “breaking” a box, we are breaking it up between multiple people. When ripping, we are either ripping the whole box for ourselves or a customer.

Where Do You Host Your Breaks?

We have built up a great following and community on Instagram, so we run all of our breaks live on IG TV (Instagram Live). After the breaks, we will have a quick recap on our YouTube channel as well
